Small but Deadly

The phantasmal poison dart frog lives on the slopes of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador. As their name suggests, they are poisonous. Their poison comes from their diet, which includes ants, spiders, mites, and other insects. The frogs metabolize the toxins from their prey and combine them to produce a poison that they secrete through their skin. Their poison is so potent that only a few micrograms can be fatal to a human.

They are some of the smallest frog species (1-4 cm) that are about the size of a quarter.

The IUCN lists the phantasmal poison dart frog as vulnerable. Threats include deforestation, pollution, and disease.
