Sloths are native Central and South America. All sloths have 3 toes on their back feet, but two-toed sloths only have 2 toes on their forelimbs.
This is a two-toed sloth. You can see that the front limbs have two toes while the back have three.
They spend most of their time hanging out in the canopy of the rainforest. They are nocturnal and sleep up to 15 hours a day.
Everything about sloths is slow, including how they move, their digestive tract and metabolic rate.
Sloths only go to the bathroom once a week! They have to climb all the way down their tree, use the bathroom on the ground and then climb all the way back up.
Deforestation is the biggest threat to sloths. In Brazil deforestation of the Amazon rainforest has increased to its highest level since 2008.
