Endangered Alert!
Asian Elephants are smaller than their African cousins and have smaller, rounder ears.

Almost a third of Asian Elephants live in captivity, mainly in Thailand, India and Myanmar. They are widely used in the tourism industry, where they are tamed using fear-based methods, which include the use of bullhooks (long wooden sticks with a metal hook on the end).
Their population has declined by 50% in the last 75 years. Human encroachment, and habitat loss are their biggest threats. Human settlements, plantations, and farms are rapidly expanding forcing elephants onto smaller and smaller pieces of land.

Poaching is another major concern. The demand for elephant parts on the black market remains steady.
Fun Fact: Elephants go through six sets of teeth in their lifetime.
