Frogs that make their own sunscreen

The waxy-monkey tree frog is unlike most frogs. It is able to tolerate higher temperatures and direct sunlight due to their special skin glands that produce a waxy substance. The frogs rub the secretions all over themselves as protection from the sun aka sunscreen. The waxy substance also traps in moisture so the frogs don’t dry out. Another feature that makes these frogs unique is their opposable thumbs which they use to climb, and walk instead of hopping.  This is useful because they live their entire lives in the trees. It is also where the monkey in their name comes from.

Although their population is stable at the moment, their habitat (the Amazon basin) continues to be destroyed threatening their survival.
