Grey Crowned Cranes live in central and southern Africa. They are an ENDANGERED species. Their main threats are habitat loss and the illegal capture of the birds and their eggs. In some places, the cranes are kept in captivity by wealthy families or hotels as a symbol of wealth. They are also sold in the illegal pet trade. Although the crane is protected under law in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Uganda, not everyone knows this species is endangered, an important way of helping these animals survive a thrive is by sharing and educating others. Please pass it on.
